ParfumsBelcam has two new fragrances rolling out this month, both are our versions of Ed Hardy® fragrances. Clash™ is our version of Ed Hardy® for men, and Light & Harmony™ is our version of Ed Hardy® Love & Luck for Women (which RyanNY posted about recently).

Clash™, our version of the popular Ed Hardy® for men eau de toilette, is a refreshing fougere fragrance composed of cool marine notes and citrus highlights blended with fresh green accord and a base of sheer musks and precious wood. A fragrance with soul! I think this is a great fragrance for young men, that can be used casually on a daily basis.

Light & Harmony™, our version of Ed Hardy Love & Luck* for women is a fruity, floral fragrance with top notes of cherry blossom and iced bergamot followed by hints of white muguet, black currant and sheer jasmine over a base of creamy musk and patchouli. Edgy yet elegant!

Kim Kardashian, being attentive to her fans via her blog, posted yesterday that she was recently in NYC to debut her self-titled fragrance to “beauty editors from Seventeen MagazineLucky MagazineGlamourSelf and a ton more!” And the result of a phone interview has already been published in WWD. The bottle design and scent have been completed and she’s busy at work with the early stages of promotion. The WWD article mentioned that Kim has an incredible online fan base, over 2.5 million followers on Twitter! So in addition to print advertising, a lot of the promotion for the fragrance will take place on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Kim has made a point of including her fans in the process of making this fragrance. It may be the first perfume creation to be thoroughly documented on a blog! The blog was the first place she announced she would be making a fragrance. She even posted photos of the cast of the bottle design. The shade of pink to be used on the bottle was decided by a poll she presented to her fans. So it’s no surprise that Kim will be doing some surprise appearances for the release that she will only announce on Twitter. I’m assuming that these appearances will be at Sephora locations, since Sephora said she would be doing appearances in their stores. The perfume will be available exclusively at Sephora for three months, and released elsewhere by Mother’s Day, 2010.

It’s kind of ironic that the fragrance will be debuted to the rest of the world by Mother’s Day. The fragrance was originally planned to hit stores before Mother’s Day in 2009! When that date came and the perfume was still not out, I spoke with the reported producer of the fragranceNew Wave Fragrances. New Wave is the producer of the Ed Hardy line of fragrances, and Christian Audigier fragrances. They told me to expect a release of the perfume in early 2010. That’s still true, but WWD reported that the producer of the fragrance is now Lighthouse Beauty, producer of 50 Cent’s Power fragrance. So I’m guessing the delay with the perfume may have to do with some back story about the business end of the deal.

Regardless, the scent has been completed and Kim says it’s “exactly how she wants to smell.” It features crisp top notes; middle notes of  jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia; and base notes of tonka bean, jacaranda wood, and sandalwood. Again, it will debut with a three month exclusive at Sephora, and roll out to department stores by Mother’s Day.

BeyoncePop diva Beyoncé Knowles recently announced that she will have her own fragrance (as I predicted back in April). The debut scent to be made by Coty Inc., was planned to be named Sasha Fierce after her alternative personality that was featured on her most recent album, I Am Sasha Fierce. Beyoncé filed to trademark the name in September, 2008, with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. However Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has a men’s cologne called Fierce that they’ve been selling since 2002 and has been trademarked since 2003. They took legal measures to request that Beyoncé not use the name, claiming that it would be confusing for consumers. At this point Coty says that the words Fierce and Sasha Fierce will not be used in the title of the fragrance now. It seems they prefer to avoid any legal matter disputes.

In 2004 Beyoncé launched her own fragrance called Little Star, a Tommy Hilfiger scent. In 2007 she became the face of Emporio Armani Diamonds, but this was not her own fragrance. Thew new fragrance will be her first independent of a designer label. Due to launch in the spring, there is no word yet on the name of the scent. Any guesses what the name may become? I’m going with Single Lady!

IdoleArmaniArmani is a very big name in fashion of course, and has had great success with men’s fragrance. Aqua di Gio really set the bar high for men’s fragrances, remaining a top selling fragrance for over ten years now. Aqua di Gio and Code were both top five performers for the brand, yet Code for women only reached number six. Well, Armani is hoping to break their record for women’s fragrance now and create one that not only ranks in the the top five, but remains a favorite. Idole d’Armani is a grand effort by Giorgio Armani, and his beauty licensee L’Oréal, to “find a clientele that will be more faithful and will stay with the fragrance, a scent that will become a classic,” he said in an interview with WWD. Here is a excerpt about the scent from the article:

“Idole d’Armani, a spicy floral fragrance developed with Bruno Jovanic of International Flavors & Fragrances, opens with Sicilian clementine, juicy pear, ginger and Indian davana. Its heart is absolute saffron, Egyptian jasmine, and loukoum rose, and the drydown is of patchouli and vitiver.”

Both the scent and the bottle, designed by Armani himself, are said to celebrate the woman’s inner strength and femininity.

An ad campaign for Idole d’Armani featuring Kasia Smutniak will appear on television in September, and in print in October. The eau de parfum will be available at 20,000 doors worldwide in September as a 1 oz. bottle for $39.50, a 1.7 oz. bottle for $62, and a 2.5 oz. bottle for $75.

In July 2008, Kim Kardashian annouced on her blog that she was making her own perfume, and that it would be out in May 2009, before Mother’s Day. Well, it’s May, and I haven’t been able to find a shred of info on a release, or even a name for it.

Kim was very excited about announcing the perfume, saying:

“It has always been a dream of mine to start my own perfume business, since I love to mix fragrances together and come up with new and different scents! I hope you understand my total excitement as I let you, the readers of my blog, become the first to know that I am creating my own fragrance!!”

Kim said she was working with French perfumer Caroline Sabas to create the perfume that will be produced by New Wave Fragrances. She even mentioned the bottle designer, Scott Oshry.

Coming out just in time for Mother’s Day is ANNIKA, the first perfume from golf celebrity Annika Sorenstam. For those who aren’t familiar with Annika here’s a great little bio I found on readygolf.com:

 

“Annika is the greatest female golfer of our generation and often regarded as the best player in LPGA history. Her prestigious list of accomplishments includes her 2003 induction into the World Golf and LPGA Halls of Fame, ten Major Championships, 88 worldwide professional victories, eight LPGA Player of the Year Awards and participation on eight Solheim Cup teams. In June 2008, Annika was named a USGA Ambassador. Annika has worked hard on her off-the-course businesses, which include the ANNIKA Academy, the ANNIKA Foundation, the ANNIKA Collection with Cutter & Buck, ANNIKA Financial Group, numerous golf course design projects, tournaments she hosts, along with her website and blog.”

The new perfume is being marketed for women, and has notes of amber, vanilla, white flowers and fresh citrus. ANNIKA will be available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Scandinavia beginning in May 2009, before Mother’s Day.

Rihanna

Last week Parlux Fragrances announced  an agreement with Iconic LLC, the licensing company of Hip Hop Legend Jay-Z. The agreement includes individual fragrance licenses for hip hop artist Kanye West, and pop singer Rihanna. Parlux has had luck with celebrity fragrances, such as Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson, and continues to roll out exciting new licenses like the upcoming Queen Latifa fragrance and Mark Echo. Along with the big announcement of Rihanna and Kanye West fragrances comes the hope for other licenses as well. Parlux said that they are negotiating a Jay-Z fragrance, and are “in discussions with a well-established female artist.” Let’s see… Jay-Z… a well-established female artist… Who is Beyoncé?! I think they obviously want us to suspect this is Beyoncé. Parlux Chariman and CEO, Neil Katz, said they expect to announce who the secret female is within a month. 

Mark my words… Beyoncé!

oud-27-le-labo-2New York perfume marketer Le Labo just introduced their first new scent in three years, the dark oriental Oud 27. Developed by Le Labo founders Fabrice Penot and Eddie Roschi and Firmenich perfumer Vincent Schaller, whose intention was to create a pure oriental, “overwhelming and disturbing in its signature and power.”

Oud is a fungus that grows on Agarwood trees of the Middle East, and together with the tree it makes a pungent, smoky scent. 27 is the number of ingredients used to create the fragrance. Ingredients like:

“Agarwood, Aldehyde, Ambergris, Amber, Black Pepper, Cedar Atlas, Civette, Gaiac, Incense, Musc, Nutmeg, Patchouli, Rose Bulgare, Safran, and Vetyver”

Eddie Roschi says “it’s an offbeat interpretation of an oriental wood.” Personally, I like things that are offbeat, and this actually sounds like an interesting scent. Next time I’m in NYC I’ll make sure to stop by Le Labo’s flagship store (233 Elizabeth St.) and check it out. The store is quite the experience from what I’ve heard too. They also have stores in LA, and Tokyo.

Oud 27 is available at all Le Labo locations, and in the US at Barneys in New York, Dallas, Las Vegas and San Francisco, possibly reaching Chicago and LA Barneys locations as well.

acqua-coloniaI’m always excited to see new, natural perfumes. I believe it’s a great new direction for fragrance. There’s a new line of aromatherapy perfumes coming out from 4711 called Acqua Colonia that uses natural ingredients. The five  unisex scents include: Lemon & Ginger, Lavender & Thyme, Vetyver & Bergamot, Royal Riesling and Melissa & Berbena. 4711 is responding to increasing interest in wellness, and in aromatherapy. Each scent has it’s own therapeutic effect, such as Lemon & Ginger being invigorationg, and Vetyver & Bergamot being relaxing. Sticking to tradition, the perfumes comes in the Molanus glass bottles the brand has used since 1822. 

Acqua Colonia will be available in Germany, Italy, Spain, and hopefully in U.S. department stores as well.
